Flying Solo to the EntreFest Fashion Show

I had the pleasure of attending the EntreFest Work Hard/Play Hard Fashion Show which was one of the many events that EntreFest hosted this past week. EntreFest is Iowa's entrepreneur conference featuring several Iowa businesses including startups.  It is a great way to rub elbows with other established businesses, get some really great ideas on how to brand your business and also to just have a great time in Iowa City.

Although, I didn't partake in the other events EntreFest had to offer, I did really enjoy the fashion show.  I will be honest, I had no idea what EntreFest was in the beginning. All I was set on doing was attending the fashion show, plugging myself and finding the person responsible for not allowing me to be in the fashion show.  Yes, this was originally my goal.  So I had my plan in place.  Big hair..... Check!  Classy outfit...Check! Bold shoes... Check, check!  Standing out in a crowd of people...... Infinity check!  The only problem holding me back from attending the show was that I had no one to go with.

Flying solo is not my thing.  I am already as quiet as a mouse around new people, but to actually go to an event by myself where I knew no one was ABSOLUTELY insane to me!  I am sweating right now just thinking about it again.  No one and I mean no one wanted to go with me. I asked my good friends, then my so-so friends, then people I only talk to like once a year and every single person said, "No."  My heart broke a good 50 times, but I was determined to go to this event, bare with me, even if I had to go by myself.

Yes, I attended the event by my lonesome and it was FANTASTIC!!!  The venue was amazing! It was on the rooftop deck of Hotel Vetro overlooking Iowa City.  It was out of this cornfield! I mean, so not Iowa.  It felt like Chicago or better yet New York City.  It was classy, yet laid back, cultivated, but not stuck up.  Overall, just superb!

At first when I walked up to the venue I was super nervous.  I have grown accustomed to people staring at me because of my hair but usually I am with someone and focus my attention on them instead of  the prying eyes.  When you are by yourself, you notice everything and everyone! I am so thankful I had sunglasses on and for my own personal cheerleaders who yelled compliments to me as I was on the verge of walking my high yellow heels right back to my car. If I would have skipped out on this event I would have missed out on seeing the local businesses displaying their clothing, style expertise, sunglasses and learning a little more about  EntreFest

To name a few of the Iowa grown businesses that captivated my attention at the show: Ellison eyewear, a company that was created by a University of Iowa student. Meeting the founder of Ellison, Aristotle Loumis, was a highlight. Other businesses were: GentlemenCareSicily BoutiqueRevival Clothing StoreBLU Collar FashionTailgate Iowa, Jami Jewelry, Mayfair, Men's Style Lab,Textiles, Guns x ButterBustleworshipCatherine's Boutique - Iowa City, IABuzz Salon, and Thompson & Co Salon Parlor.

I was drooling and I mean actually like baby drooling, not over the models, who were fantastic minus the fact that I wasn't one of them, but over the clothing and accessories. I am in such shock that Iowa holds so much talent! There was a black and white outfit that had ME written all over it. It was a black v-neck top paired with white calf length gauchos from Catherine's Boutique - Iowa City, IA. Even the necklace draped with this outfit was amazing.  BLU Collar Fashion stole my heart.  I dress up more than I dress down, but BLU Collar Fashion tugged at my tomboy side.  With this line I can still be sexy in a t-shirt from this up and coming business. Don't get me started on Men's Style Lab! I actually might try their services for myself because I do tend to dress in menswear, kind of like Janelle Monae.  I know I will definitely recommend their services to my male friends.

Overall, going to  this fashion show alone did not kill me.  Lol!  It actually raised my confidence.  I did run into a couple of people I knew so that made me feel a little more comfortable.  Also I gained a ton of knowledge about  EntreFest and will hopefully attend all of their events next year, May 18-20, 2016 and of course reservation is for one, please!
